hi i have a gateway gt5028 with windows xp so here my problem one day i put my pc in stand by mode then when i took it out of stand by mode i open the internet browser and it show the screen that it fail to open the site so i tried typeing in google.com that didn't work so i tired unpluging my router and dsl box to fix it still doesn't work. then i tried to restart my pc still not working so i tried last know configuration still no work. so then i tried system restore point still couldn't go online then also the internet is work on my othe pc and its not the ethernet cable either i tried that on my other pc and it work. so i notic so i went to view network connection and notice local area connection was missing i also notice when i unplug my ethernet cable it didn't say anything in the tray icon like it usally does. so i tried everything and whats worse is i tried useing the recovery cd my pc came with and it always freezes up when it time to select a destructive install so if you can figure out how to get my internet working or figure out why my recovery cd freezes that would help so much.

As far as your missing local area connection, is there an option to disable ethernet card in the BIOS - if so check it is enabled, are there any problems showing at all in device manager.
