Hi folks, It happens about 6 minutes into the burning. I though it was the OEM version of Nero 6 that I had, so uninstalled that one and downloaded the Nero 7 trial version, but it also happened. I´ve checked that all my fans are working, I don´t think it´s the drive but can´t be sure. PC seems clean no viruses etc. Have tried all types of media, good quality ones. Any ideas as to where I can look. Thanks in advance Annie
Annie, this is something that has happened to me on a number of occasions. I cannot explain why but I have had to re start my comp just to retrieve my disc and shut down Nero prog, I will watch this thread to see what replies you receive, good luck.
Thanks for replying Gwendolin, I´m pretty green about all this business. I´ve uninstalled the Demo 7 and reinstalled Nero 6 and I think I´ll do the upsgrade on line to the paying version of Nero 7, but I don´t think that will solve the freeze problem. What is firmware?? I´ve been reading some threads about out of date firmare, it seems important. How doea one check is it´s out of date?? Is it the actual CD/DVD drive?? Thanks Annie
For us to be able to look into the problem further I am going to ask you to post a Nero Log, that gives us all the details we need to know to analyse your problem. You can find your Nero7 log file here, it's really long Nero 7 history log location: Program Files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory.txt If you cant locate it then get back ASAP.
When I go start > programmes > Nero....I then get Nero OEM OR Nero toolkit, do I go into one of them for the log, I couldn´t see Core or history. It´s Nero 6.6.0.18.exe that I have at the moment, uninstalled the 7 Demo. Annie

You are burning way too fast, normally 4X for video and movies max of 32X for music. This indicates you have Roxio installed, it conflicts with Nero, run this zapper from here http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml
Ok have got rid of Roxio. How do I slow down, does that mean buy slower DVD´S? Why do I have Nero 7 info on my PC when I´ve disinstalled that version and used the cleaning tool??? Gwendolin......did my log tell you if my firmware is up to date??? Thanks so much for your help, much appreciated. Annie
My link to firmware is not available at this time, dont worry too much about it yet. To slow down your burn, open Nero Rom and select as shown http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d20/baynto/NeroROM.png and the adjust your burn speed from 40X to about 24X or so. Use good quality discs and steer clear of memorex.
Well that´s where the problem started with memorex.........are they no good then??? Will adjust speed and let you know.
Memorex are possibly the worst disc you can buy, they are made by CMC Mag and are too inconsistent and do cause untold burn failures, if you do use them burn really slowly until you get some Verbatims or Sony that are made in japan. Good luck...let us know what happens. Cheers.
Gwendolin...............it didn´t work, tried to burn a short 50mb video but it didn´t get passed 6 minutes. I could only lower the speed to 12x. Still must check the "firmware" but I see that page is still down. I think it´s my PC its over 5 yrs old probably got arthritis!!!! This is strange I had installed an OEM version that a friend passed onto me while installing there was already a serial number marked so I used that I didn´t use the one on the sleeve, and it had Nero Vision. I uninstalled it as I thought that possibly the problems were that it was a OEM version. Have now reinstalled it and there´s no Nero Vision, this time I used the serial number on sleeve.!!!!!! So I´ve gone back to Nero 6.6.0.18.exe and as that doesn´t have Nero Vision either I´ll fork out and update on line now the question is can I then install the updated paid version on my 2 ´PC´s?????? Annie
OK things dont look good, can you post the LAST Nero log again. Heres where you can find them Nero 6 history log location: Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt Nero 7 history log location: Program Files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory.txt Also check your Private messages.
I have been in the way you say and cannot find either, I think I´ve deleted everything that says Nero via the search page, I didn´t know why files named Nero 7 were still on the PC when I´d eliminated the programme, but now I know it was the history!!!!!!! Shall I attempt to burn a CD then I´ll get a history?? Thanks Annie
Cannot find my history, got as far as "core" and all that´s in there is CDI, as mentioned I think I completely cleared out everything Nero related and now although I´ve tried to burn again without success it´s give me no history. Is it possible that my PC is not up to it, too old, any idea where I can check the basics, how much memory, space etc needed. Annie
I have just done a search for current drivers but cannot find yours listed, the closest I find is Philips DVDR1640P which is NOT it. I suggest you go to htp://www.philips.com and see if you can locate yours in the country of origin. Really to be successful in burning it is recommended you have a minimum of 512meg RAM so I would add some. In the meantime dont multitask while burning and turn off all unnecessary progs including spyware. As mentioned use good quality media and burn Video at 4X and music etc at around 16-24X.
i've chopped out all but the last section of logfile and the serial number too. it's early and my eyes aren't quite working yet so i may repeat some of what gwendolin's already said... - newer firmware (B3.6 dated Aug 2005) is here - http://cdrinfo.com/Sections/Firmware/SingleModel.aspx?DriveId=1008 - you need to keep an eye on free memory...make sure to close down more programs prior to ALL burning i don't know any Spanish but that was totally easy to translate! - "The name of the file or the extension is too long". Also the giveaway is the next line - that pathname almost reaches from here to Spain![/quote] - wow, see previous comment. i'd better chop this line into sections as it's thrown the page margins out too - the details of the blank discs should be here, but this 1-liner is saying that the burner's firmware doesn't recognise/understand anything about those blank discs. This is similar to what you should see when the firmware is up to date - - ie a 5line paragraph when the firmware is up to date for cd's i only do 16x maximum for audio cd's and 24x maximum for data - hmmm.. - CDRALW2K.SYS is part of Roxio. try uninstalling Roxio (doesn't always play well with Nero), then you might need to fully remove using Roxio Zapper - http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml and now i need a morning cup of tea, back soon..
There you go anniebee , helped by the BEST (creaky) hopefully things will go a lot better now, good luck and stay in touch. Cheers. @creaky, many thanks.
