It might be the copy-protection on the actual CD/DVD. The best emulation software is Alcohol 120%. I don't know a whole lot about it because I don't own it (nor do I plan to). The best thing you can do if you can't get it to work is to just pucker up and stick the CD/DVD into your regular disc drives.
