K, so I just built a computer and it has ran fine for a while and is now having problems. Currently what im trying to do is fix my hdd. I ran chkdsk in cmd and it said i have errors. I go to fix them upon restart, but when i do that, it doesnt fix them. Help would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully this will fix what the other things are too. Thanks, J. Walters
Okay, so to go a little more indepth, Ive been having problems with my computer. I built it a couple weeks ago and it worked fine until now. I was playing crysis and it just shut off so i thought maybe it was my video card overheating, so i got a fan and for it, and it still does it. I got a bigger power supply and it still shuts off. Ive been reading some forums and I thought I'd try out that chkdsk in the command prompt and it detected errors. So i go and tell it to fix them when it restarts, but everytime it restarts it doesnt detect them and doesnt fix them. Hopefully this is an easy fix and this is all thats wrong. Any help would be great, its starting to annoy me. Thanks
Are you sure it's your drive and not a stick of ram going bad? The symptoms can seem very similar. http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1583&page=5 lots of things to try in there If the drive checks out then check your ram with either a memory test utility or by removing one stick at a time and seeing what happens. Another possibility is the psu is playing about, especially if the symptom is black screen and reboot immediately. Finally.. some graphics drivers are known to cause this kind of problem.. reinstalling the driver seems to cure it.
well, I recently got a new larger psu, not saying that cant be it, but it doesnt have those symptoms. Ive been trying other things off the link given, and chkdsk still wont fix the errors. But, I downloaded a Ram test software and ran it on both sticks of ram, seperatly. the test says that they both are fine. So i dont know. maybed its my gpu overheating or something...?
Yea, I couldnt remember where i Posted this thread so thats why it took so long to get the final answer to my problem. It was my memory, one of my sticks of my RAM went out and was causing it to shut off. I took it out and no more BSOD. Have now replaced it with Two crucial sticks plus old one and works like new. Thanks for the help =)
