I have a CRT HP vx74 and have just loved this monitor since i bought it back in 04. It has always had the best picture out of any hdtv or any monitor ive had or even used. Well recently i think it may be slowly dieing.... No HUGE problem but when i highlight text on my screen i can see what looks like a small white streak tot he left of the highlight area. Whats weird this is really the only place i can really see it. If it stays like this i could deal with it since its not super bad. Ive tryed many thing to try and clear it up. First off my video card is DVI only while my monitor is VGA so ive been using the vga to dvi adapter, so i thought it might be this so i completly removed the graphics card and put in my older 7600 that has a vga slot and there was no change. I also tryed changing drivers and also ran the card with no driver and i could still notice it. I reinstalled my windows like 2 weeks ago but didnt notice these streak. Could it still be my pc or is this signs of a crt dieing?
it is the crt that is dying as videocard will cause spots/articles all over the screen not a line on leftside of monitor.
Its a small line or like light if you will that is on the right side of some objects. Usally with blue highlighted text and some blue ist windows outline stuff. iv tryed to degaus it but doesnt change. Its nothing MAJOR its not noticable in games or movies andi prob wont see it much if im not looking but i just more upset my all time fav monitor it dieing =/ Does the streaks get worse or mayber it may die because of it? or do ya think itl prob be like this for a years?
After reading ym post i might of confused you. The weird whitish lines happen on the right of certain lines or text boxes like the edges of them is like i highlighted it but it shows a like fake whote shadow. Not a actuall Line on the monitor or anything it just shows based on what i highlight or some windows. Example if i highlighted all this text i whould see a weird shadow to the right of it but if its not highlighed it looks fine very weird.
ddp did the 15" you had die compeltly because of it? Also i was gonna do a windows reinstall but i noticed it was happening on the Hp bootup screen to so yeah. maybe the actual monitor cord is faulty (its built onto the monitor tho maybe i can get it fixed? i rem i had a vga cable to goto my tv once and it had streaked lines because of the cable.
it died of old age as i bought it used for about $40 in 97. doubt very much it is a cable problem as it just sends signal from videocard to monitor. wiggle the cable to see what happens. i used to build monitor cables at 1 of my jobs.
