Hi all, I am having a problem with my pc monitor. Just recentley my monitor doesnt boot up when i boot up my pc. The green light on my monitor just flashes constantly & screen stays blank. If i disconnect the cable that goes from pc to monitor, after a few tries the monitor eventually boots up and i get my picture back. This happens all the time now and i just don't know why its doing this and whats the cause. If i restart my pc the monitor boots up ok, it just seems to be when i power down/shutdown my pc, then boot up the next day i get this problem. Any help on this would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Could be a bad DVI/VGA cable but im going to lean toward a monitor or video card issue. PC Specs could be helpful.
Try leaving the monitor off all night, but leaving the PC turned on. In the morning, see if the monitor still has trouble coming on. If the monitor comes on quickly and mormally, it probably isn't the source of the problem. I would then switch out the VGA or DVI cable and see if the problem goes away. Then swap out the monitor power cable. One at a time try to narrow down or eliminate the problem. If you can eliminate the monitor, control and power cables as being the guilty culprit, you are then left with checking out the control cable plug on your video card looking for loose, pushed in, broken or bent pins. Finding none, you re-seat the video card until finally you are left with trying a different video card. Somewhere in that chain of: motherboard-to-video card connector - video card - video card-to-cable connector, video cable-to-card connector - video cable - video cable-to-monitor connector - monitor connector - monitor you should be able to isolate your problem. Try to isolate each link in the motherboard-to-monitor chain (including power to the monitor) to see if you can find which one is failing. Dick
Hi aLL, Thanks for all the replies. In the end it was the monitor that was faulty. Tried pc on my tv with existing cable & it worked ok. Replaced monitor and all seems fine. Cheers.
