i have installed a new HD (samsung spinpoint 501LJ) my motherboard only supports IDE so had to install raid card to run it, with help from afterdawn(upgrading pc Hard Drive problem 28/03/08.
the hard drive is recognized and there are no conflicts in device management, have copied files from old HD to new with Norton Ghost and everything seems ok.
changed my old HD jumper to slave, but the new HD is not on the main computer Bios screen so the computer will not boot from it.
    ide prim master none
    ide prim slave (WDC W800EB)
    ide sec master none
    ide sec slave none
    the new drive is SATA.
on loading the following screen appears
    ALI raid Bios
    identifying drives
    ALI prim master none
    ALI prim slave none
    ALI sec master HD501LJ
    ALI sec slave none
when moving jumper on new SATA drive no change to these!
the computer only boots if the old drive is connected so i guess its booting from the old drive.
how can i get my new drive set to master so i can format my old drive. Or is there a better way to run the SATA or should i buy a IDE.
a bit of a long winded question but thanks for anyone reading and trying to help.

It might be that PCI raid card giving you problems. When I had one installed and the drives connected to the raid card, the drives weren't recognize in the BIOS, only until windows booted up did they make there prescence known. The drives work great as data drives, but thats about it.

If you need to make your sata as a boot drive you need to get a sata/ide adapter that attaches to the back of the hard drive. I have use them before (cost me about $12.00). This will basically turn your sata to IDE, when connected, the hard drive shows up in the BIOS and the computer treats it as a regular IDE drive. The only thing is make sure you connect it correctly, the hard drive will need it's normal power connection and the adapter will need it's own small power connection (supplied).
