Ok heres the deal. My PC has not been working right since the 5th of Jan. The other day I booted a game, in Windows XP, and the computer gave me a blue screen, saying there was a major error related to the graphics card. Then every time i would start up the computer, the main scrren loads up for starting dell, and then it go'es greyish black, and makes a rrrrr sound. I think its the hard drive because everything else is installed correctly. The only other hard drive i have is an extra Xbox 10 gig.

Could anyone help me, i have a Dell Dimension 2400, with 3 pci slots, 512 of ram, and a 70 gig HD??

AHHHHHHH!!! The blue screen of death!

Do you have some type of windows desktop configuring done to your computer, because sometimes if your computer actively uses special configs. for your gfx card directx will be overloaded and shut down the computer. And since dirctx configuration is stored on the hardrive it may have corrupted that as well.

    Something to ponder upon.

Ok I think i found out the problim, I got a message in the boot screen, that says that the file Windows/conifg/win32/setup or somthing like that is missing. If i got a re-install disc would this solv my problim, and would i need my CD key because i dont have it. It got ripped off a while back.

BTW, my HD is a Maxtor

you said it yourself you need a windows cd.

you may not need the serial if you can get the windows cd you could try just repairing the installation
