I'm trying to fix my friends PC, the computer doesn't detect the dvd-drive, no matter what. I tried to put it as master, slave, etc.. I set it up with new ide cables and nothing. I also tried two other cd,dvd drives and same thing it didn't detect it. Something I noticed that was weird is that in "My Computer" it has the "C:\" which is normal, but the "D:\" is set-up as a partition. This might be the problem, but as for now, I'm stuck. The dvd,cd- drive doesn't read any type of cd or dvd. Any other ideas you might have? maybe I will need to reboot and format the PC? thanks sh00k_0n3s
try using the dvd drive as secondary to the hdd, if this works then the secondary ide is not working, if not looks like the dvd isnt set up right or has seen its day.
Just a longshot -- Some newer computers don't need the master/slave setting. There's usually a third position for the little selector piece -- CSL; this just lets the computer figure it out. I think newer computers, built in the past few years do this. But I could be wrong.
I will try what you suggested wdowsing, but as for the 3rd post I already try the CSL and let the pc do the job it's self and it didn't work.
