are there any video files in that folder? Description: When opening folders with movie files in them, windows explorer (the desktop) crashes. Problem: This is a known issue with Windows XP's video thumbnail thing in Explorer. Being a thing invented by MS, it's buggy and doesn't always know how to handle things not supported by MS, and occasionally fails on things it does know how to support too. Every now and again it will crash and take Explorer down with it. Easy to solve thankfully. Solution: Windows XP: * Go to Start -> Run... and type regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll Press enter. Done. It's as simple as that. If you, for some reason want it back, simply do the same thing again, but remove the "/u". That is: Start -> Run... regsvr32 shmedia.dll This will only disable movie thumbnails/previews, not picture thumbnails. This fixed my problem, this might not be exactly your problem but that is the area you need to looking at.
i deleted the biggest video file that was in my pictures fi;le and it was working untill i turned on my cpu this morining and same thing happens i have 4 other video files that i cant delete it always says its being used by another person.
Three options,me personally i'd consider a reformat if it's been more than a year since xp was installed,a reboot should enable you to delete that file if it did'nt your comp is obviously buggy for whatever reason & it's high time to start a fresh, you should also think about investing in ghost or acroins To continue as is then boot to safe mode & delete it from there. lastly use windows update icon (somwhere in all progs list or start menu) to go get any patches that are on the ms site by clicking on the "CUSTOM" button when it appears, tho i would advise not installing SP3 since your comp is already buggy it would break it for sure to get to safe mode either F1 or F8 on reboot before window loading bar appears
