Currently I have what you see below in my siggy, but I'm interested in upgrading and purchasing a newer machine. I have heard from a lot of happy Athlon owners and I see in here a number of you are athlon owner/users. I know all about the Pentium class processor and the lower and upper class versions of it. However, I'm not at all familiar with the AMD processor. I see there are a few different variations but don't know the difference. If anybody would be so kind as to enlighten me, I'd greatly appreciate it. Also, is ram primarily the same in these machines; just a different processor? Or is the ram different with the different processor unlike ram used in a pentium machine? Thanks to all in advance. I've found there is an Athlon 64, Athlon 64x2, Sempron XX00, Opteron? What is the best and most readily available for consumer use? As I will use this information when I inquire for purchase? Again. I thank you all for your expertise and keen knowledge!
Pick up the Feb issue of MaximumPC...there is a AMD vs. Intel dual core article in it. Also there is http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118,00.html
