Is there an adapter anyone knows of to run a computer speaker into the AV ports of a VCR. I called Best Buy and there was a method alluded to that would be costly according to the sales associate. That was not very helpful. Any suggestions???

so you just want to run the audio from your computer to the audio input of a VCR? Thats easy...all you need is a cable with a stereo 1/8" plug on one end (to plug into your computer audio card's output) and two RCA plugs (usually white-left and red-right) on the other end. That should be all you need. You can get this cable pretty much anywhere...Fry's Electronics, Radio Shack, Best Buy, Circuit City...any audio/video or electronics store will have it.

I guess it would be the same cable for what I need. What I actually want to do is take the computer speakers that I bought a year ago and run those into the vcr. Best buy said that the cables I would need would run me about 35$ which seems rediculous to me. I may just have to go in and take a look around. Thanks!

oh so you want to do the opposite...take the audio out from a VCR and connect it to computer speakers? First off, this will only work if the speakers are powered...passive (non-powered) speakers won't work, as the line-out audio from a VCR is not enough power to drive speakers on its own.

the cable you now need is the opposite. I assume the computer speakers you have has a 1/8" stereo plug on it, to plug into the computer, right? so now you need a cable that has an 1/8" stereo jack (female connector...opposite of plug) to plug the speakers in, and then the two RCA plugs (male connector) to connect to the VCR's audio out on the other end of the cable.

That should do the trick, but like I said the computer speakers need to be powered (have their own amp) in order for this setup to work.

I believe that they are powered. The speakers have a seperate power plug. That cable sounds exactly like what I need. I guess there is no reason they would not make that sort of adapter, I was just unsure whether they did or not. You have clarified it in my mind, thanks.

yeah if the speakers require power then they have a built in amp...just get that cable and you should be good to go! Note that the cable you need, with the 1/8" stereo female jack to RCA plugs is not as common as the other cable (1/8" stereo plug). So places like Circuit City and Best Buy may not have it. You may have to go to an electronics store like Radio Shack or Fry's electronics. Or if you don't need it ASAP, you could always get it online.
