i have a 5.1 set of pc speakers..and i need a sound card that has one input, and that can process sound from other devices, like a ps2, xbox, or tv. i would want the pc to process the sound through the sound card so that, any stereo sound coming from my Ps2 would come out in surround sound. i would have the pc, the ps2 and others pluged into my HDTV.

and since i will have multiple sound sourrces going in to the pc, i most likely(if i cannot find another form to do it) buy an audio selector and plug that into the pc. heres a diagram of how it would go.

i know the pc would have to be on to do this. and i would have to manually flip a switch to choose which source i want to be processed.

so, would this work? any ideas how to make it better?

You cannot magically make DD5.1 surround sound from a 2 channel source.
There's no sound card in the world that can do that.
There is software that will take a 2 chan source, and sort of split it into 5.1, and give you a fakish sounding surround, but the software alone is well over $1000.

Then you don't need a separate sound card.
