Hmmmm ya know I'm not sure if it is legit or not. I googled around a little bit and couldn't really find any guides. but there were others using the same setup that you are mentioning and it was working for them, but there were others that were having problems. i guess that some of the TV's have to be set to a certain resolution for it to get a picture and your graphics card might need to be as well.
Thats as much as i could find on it.
    Hope i helped a little.

Should work fine, however I believe a HDMI input on the LCD will only accept certain resolutions ( both at SD and HD)
Try playing with your graphics card resolution settings (try 1280 x 720)
If you have an Nvidia card you could try the TV wizzard in the Nview desktop manager.
Generaaly the only limitation you should have is that you will not transmit the HDCP signal so I suspect if you played a HD movie from a HD drive in your PC it would not display. However, downloads should be OK.
