I had done a check on line to see what i could upgrade one of my PC's Ram memory to as this PC was slow the existing memory was 256MB on a DDR Ram stick and i was upgrading this to 512MB DDR stick. I had removed the cover and mains lead as well as monitor and other attached items. I removed the 256 stick and replaced this with the 512 stick. However after connecting everything i restarted the machine and up on the screen very quickly came searching for boot record? I closed down the PC and restarted it but up again the same message and then the screen goes blank. I removed the stick and put the 256MB back in its original slot and got the same problem i have removed ram sticks before and replaced them and have never had this problem I checked all cables and to make sure there were no loose cables all was ok. The site i purchased this 512 stick from stated that each slot was 512MB. The PC is a Packard Bell Ixtreme 6052 any help please.
I forgot to add just in case this is any help The original 256MB Stick has a tag on it stating 256MB DDR 333 CL2.5 The %12MB has a tag which states 512MB 184-Pin Unbuff Dimm 64MX DDR 333, CL2.5
reconnect all cables, both power & data to the drives. check in the bios to see if the hd is seen at all or not.
If it was possible to get into the Bios i would have done this. When ever the pc is started i get a quick flash on the screen of text saying looking for boot record? and then it goes to a blank screen. If i press F2 before the main page loads which is does not i get taken to what appears to be the bios how ever what ever key is pressed to the instructions on screen of which only the top half of the screen is sued the keyboard does nothing except beep. I am starting to wonder that something serious has gone down here How the hell is that possible this is a straight forward job. All cables are connected no loose leads. Just is not booting at all. I even put the old memory stick back in and its still the same. There was no static on this stick when it was installed and i have done many of these without having to earth anything and have had no problems till now the PC is dead it starts up but that is all you get. Does this mean i am going to have to load in a new operating system?
Ok just tried this i pulled the jumper and restarted the PC now i get a full screen i press F5 to set defaults I then have at the top of the screen a box grey on top and blue at the bottom in this box you have F1 About up and down arrows select item, change values, F2 etc but which ever i select the keyboard just beeps and does nothing. I did see on the other screen that it stated the Cmos Battery is low i cannot believe that this is the problem. I went to the crucial site before buying this ram to find what was compat for my PC so i have purchased the correct ram stick. I jsu get the old screen back again searching for boot record. I am at a total loss.
