OK, this ones a liitle tough to discribe but ill do my best... U know how u have the task section on the left of your window everytime u open a window in "Windows XP". well on my laptop, every time i try to move some files across it, I get these wierd resedo lines that follow after and they get stuck there until i either refresh or collapse the window. this doesnt happen when i take the task section off but i like using it. I took my laptop to "Geek Squad" and they told me it was a ram issue so i spent $200 on a new 1gb ram chip only to have the problem come up again. Please help... also here is a link to a video that i made of what im talking about exactly... http://www.filelodge.com/files/hdd8/196794/test.wmv
$200 at geek squad?!?!!?! Good lord you got taken to the cleaners!!! But that seems more like a issue with the video card. Age of the laptop? Who built it? Model number? Does it do it all the time or after the computer has been running for awhile? What kind of video card do you have?
Agreed....my goodness! I'd get names of those Geeks! I'd go back to the same nerd that told you that and say "I just spent $200 on your opinion, and I still have the same problem!" I'm willing to bet it takes a few before they say anything...wonder where the mighty Geek Squad could have gone wrong! lol I agree with jz here, it sounds either like the video card (drivers need updating)...it's either getting too hot, or it could be an LCD issue. In which case replacing the entire screen would be too much to justify.
A little off topic but a friend of mine had taken his PC to the local Best Buy "Geek Squad" I believe he said 3 times one week spent around $600 dollars or so and still was having issues. I took his PC home worked on it for a good day and a half and presto had it running like it was a fresh windows install. "Geek Squad" what a rip!
yeah i know, i got done up the rear on that deal but ram chips that are 1gb cant be found for much cheaper anywere alse ya know. And whats funny is that after I read all the replys, I took it back and they said that it was all ready opened so i had to get store credit so i was just like forget it (Gay). anyways this is the system properties of my computer The model number is zv5260us hp pavilion. i cant seem to find the video card on my computer so if u know where im suppossedto go to find it please let me know so i can post it...
For Serice Pack 1 systems, you click on Hardware, then in the center section, click on Device Manager. It will be under the Display Adapters. Service Pack 2 moves the DM up to the top section. Or, you can right click your desktop, go to Properties. Click on Settings, then Advanced. It will be in the Adapter tab if it doesn't show up in the title area of the window.
