Can you be a bit more specific? What are you having trouble with?

it is straight wired to the modem. the pc won't commuicate with the modem. however i know the modem works because its wireless capabilities works with my laptop.

sounds like a combo unit router & modem. have you tried a different ethernet cable & in a different lan port in router/modem?

its a router and modem. 2wire makes it. i have att. um i tried different ports and different cables. i am pretty sure it has something to do with my new motherboard i installed. maybe its a driver issue or something. idont know.

i fixed it on my own. just had to install the drivers for the device. it was labeled unknown. that is why i didnt see it under the network section. i used everest to detect all my drivers. searched the internet for the one i have. broadcom netxtreme bcm5782 and bam. it works like a champ. now to fix my other post :(

the fact you had to load a device driver means it is using an usb cable not ethernet cable.

Not always.. the asus k8n board needs an ethernet chipset driver which isn't included with XP ;) A lot of the newer chipsets aren't supported by the outmoded XP driver set.

yea it was definitely a ethernet cable im using. the difference between that and a usb cable is huge.
