ok so my friend's dell wont start up, when u push the button, the green power light doesnt come on, and neither does the computer. Instead a small orange light next to the button starts blinking, and will stop after a minute or two. nothing else connected to the computer will turn on either. If u open up the case, the green light on the mobo is still lit, but again when u push teh power button on the front of the case, only a small orange light blinks, no otehr action. About a week ago it started, and it would turn on ocasionally if u were lucky, but now it will not turn on at all. I have checked all of the connections coming from the power supply, and everything is tight, and in it's proper place. The chord coming from the wall to the power supply is also fine. I'm assunming a new power supply will solve the problem, i'm gonna try an old 300w i have and swapping it for the "faulty?" one. Anyone know of anything else that could be causing the problem? for the peroid of time when you could get lucky and turn it on, it always stayed on and performed fine. So, new Power Supply or something else?
check the power from the psu to the hard drive. or the EIDE cable from the hdrive.. that might give u the problem..
reseat all power connections to the motherboard. disconnect all cables to drives just in case 1 of them is causing the problem. try another psu. check the can shaped objects on the motherboard that are capacitors that they are flat topped not domed.
