    https://ipfilterx.com/why-ipfilterx-and-not-only-vpn/

VPN is not enough and many times gives just the opposite effects.

ipfilterX remains still the most valid and update blacklist out there

Just incase you think I am crazy. Here are some links to back up my claims. NSA probably hired the Equation group to build a suite of super stealthy unstoppable attack malware. The suit was likely created to spy on Bin Laden since it penetrates networks not connected to the internet.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equation_Group

Their massive attack during 2015 using an attack that can't be detected or repaired even today. I suspect they had a new version and used the NSA version to breach over 5,000 high security networks. These included military and bank networks. They stole billions of dollars never recovered.

That statement that this attack is a super rare occurrence is used to reduce public panic. Since I was attacked with a similar attack a month or 2 before the massive attack and I know other AD members who were attacked, this isn't rare at all. What is rare is someone able to figure out they are infected. The only way you can figure out your HD firmware is infected with RO firmware is to build firmware with some obvious difference like a different color scheme and install it. If there are no changes no matter the display said the update was successful you are infected. 5 years later they still make vulnerable firmware instead of RO firmware even though they now know how it is done.

I was able to tell my HD was attacked is I checked my HD partitions and that my partition was gone replaced by something the partition manager didn't understand. Since then, the firmware attacks the manager as it loads so you can't see what is on your drive.

A VPN probably will prevent someone spying on your downloading but can't protect you from a malware attack that attacks you through the IP tunnel. Using a too small to see window on the site, a hacker can take over your computer in seconds. There is no protection from that other than Blue Coat but I don't think that works in a VPN.
