I have a TDK-840G and have been using Fuji DVD+R media, DVD Shrink, DeCrypter, AnyDVD with DVDClone to determine which one works best for me. Normally I burn with Burnatonce since so far, I haven't figured out how to use Nero6 yet. On my standalone DVD player (panasonic) relatively new (2years old max), after roughly 45mins, I always seem to get freezeUps and the DTS audio drops in and out. This usually happens with the DVDClone,AnyDVD combo. The AnyDVD is still on a trial basis and I'm wondering if there is some limit on how much or how long the decryption lasts and will this problem clear itself if I were to purchase? This problem so far hasn't occured yet with DVD-R although the burn speed is 2x as opposed to 4x with the +R media.. Any suggestions as to how to clear this?
Hiya Cman, Question: Is the DVD+R warm/hot? Noticably moreso than ambient temp after playing e.g. play until the problem manifests itself then eject immediately & feel the top of it. If it is warm/hot, try blowing on the top surface to cool it, re-insert & resume the movie from the place it started exhibiting problems - does this allow you to watch without problems for a further period of time? How long? The possible reasons are many. Please try the above and post results of the testing. If it is what I think it may be (overheating), i may be able to guide you to a solution. Have Fun...
CloneDVD and AnyDVD work normally untill they expire. You may have a media problem causing the drop outs, try a different brand and see if the problem goes away. Nero6 is easy to use, follow these guides: http://dvdshrink.info/guides.php Your burner should burn -R media at 4X so see if swithing to a different brand of 4X-R media helps.
Will check disc temp. Tried to backup "The Recruit" and disc almost immediately started dropping out. will also change media type from Fuji DVD+R to TDK-R and also will reduce burning speed. I'll definetly get back to you folks with my results. Thanks for all the support. You guys are a great help!!
Hi Cman, Check the specs on your Panasonic player. I'll bet it only plays -R media. I have see -R players play +R media for some time before the start freeze ups. My daughters -R Toshiba actually plays +R movies all the way through since I removed the stick on labels. If the -R plays all the way through, stick with that media. I have never had any problems with backups using CloneDVD and AnyDVD. The trial period doesn't degrade. Jerry
jerry what do you mean by - i removed stick on lables? Cman- while most players will play both, and almost all play DVD+R, some players cant play +r_X_X_X_X_X_[small]check out my site http://www.backupguides.vze.com for free software and illustrated guides on copying DVDs to DVD, to CD, and other copying stuff.[/small]

I print and use the stick on labels for dvd movies. My sony player has no problem playing the copies. But most players have a big problem with stick on paper labels. They cause freezeup, pixelation, audio drop out, ect. I backed up some movies for my daughter on +r media and they would play about 1/2 hr and freeze up. I checked the specs on here Toshiba player at www.dvdrhelp.com and found out its suppose to play -R media only. I re copied the movies on -R. But when I removed the labels from the +R copies, they played all the way through too. Also older players usually only play -R media. The Toshiba was only 2years old. Newer players usually will play both. Jerry
Everyone, as it turns out, My Panasonic RV-31 does play +R media, just not very well. I also have a Panasonic RV-32 (next generation?) and it handled the +R media quite well with only ONE freeze up after 90mins of playing time. Checked DISC temp and yes, it was a bit warm but it was hard to tell if it was a result of the Disc player or something else. All other +R media seems to play fine and no glitches at all with -R on the RV-31 or the RV-32. I will be a bit more careful with those Best Buy "sales" in the future since it would appear their bargain merchandise might be a bit old.. Thanks Again..
Cman- what kind of lables are you using? if there just stick on lables, they can cause the disc to spin funny, you have to buy special cd/dvd lables. Also, its probobly because the player is not meant to play dvd+R, that could be why they play oddly, or it could be the way you burn them, try playing your +rs in other players and your pc, id bet they play in them.
These DVD+R's with the issues I've been using a Sharpie FeltTip on. No labels yet. Usually, I use Avery 8692 DVD stick on labels. Anybody have a better labeling solution?
Cman, It seems the best way to label a disc is the old Sharpie method. I bought media from many of the local stores and always had some problems. You never knew for sure what you were getting. I now order either a 25 or 50 pack of Ritek from Meritline when needed. No problems since I started doing this. Lots of problems with poor media. Jerry
Yep, been using my old sharpie after joining this forum and reading about experiences with funky disc issues. Jerry, checked out your source for media. Price is right but how are they with shipping, delivery, tracking? etc... As far as DVD+R, went into my settings for DVDClone and such. Slowed the burningspeed to the rated speed of the disc instead of the burner. In this case, 4x for +R media instead of 8x for the burner. So far so good but I think I still need more testing. Amazing the little things you have to be aware of while burning DVD's. Entirely different animal..This is not for the faint of heart nor the light of budget evidently Thanks again everyone!!!
Hi Cman, My orders from Meritline usually come in less than a week, They are west coast(California) I'm east Coast(Pennsylvania). I watch their site for either Free shipping or other bargins( sometimes packed with dvd cases). You're right about it not being a cheap pastime. Also Meritline sells sample packs pretty cheap. Several brands of media to see what works best for your burner. My burner(Memorex)usually picks the speed off the media speed and I don't try to change it. If I'm not sure how a backup will come out, I use a RW disc first to check. If it comes out ok I just use Nero disc copy to put the RW onto a R media. Have fun and don't let the problems get to you. Jerry
