OS: Windows XP SP2 with all current updates Computer: More than adequate! I have been using RATdvd succesfully from 0.5.0107 through 0.78.1444. I now get nothing but the infamous "Catastophic Failure" message when I begin the conversion process. I have completely uninstalled/reinstalled Rat several times (even went back temporarily to previous release), installed K-Lite Codec Pack, done the "DEP exceptions for the two Rat files, and am running Rat in English. Since Christmas I have installed the software for the Logitech Harmony remote (v. 5.1.2) and an external USB hard drive to which I saved a number of DVD's after running them through DVD Decrypter. I also upgraded Cyberlink Power DVD to latest satndard version. It was when I tried to "Rat" one of the copies on the USB drive that I first began having the "CF" message. Tried diconnecting the external drive and problem still persisted. Same thing happens with decrypted files copied to C drive. Tried decrypting to C drive with USB drive disconnected with same ultimate result. Tried all permutations above with all spyware and anti-virus off: same result. DVD Shrink 3.2, Menu Shrink 3.2, and DVD Decrypter all continue to work with no problems. What has triggered this problem and what have I posssibly missed!!!??? Thanks in advance. Harry Zee
This happens sometimes with hard-drives that acidentally damaged data on disk. Try reinstalling over ratDVD as I can tell you I have had crashes from programs I have installed on my comp and a good install over them eliminated the problem I had.
Tried that even though I had already did several "clean" reinstalls. No change. Thanks for trying! This is a real mystery!!! Harry Zee
harryzee, i am having the same problem. i dont have a solution, just hoping if you get one - you would email answer to me. i am burning season 2 of the show 24. s2 d1 burned ok, but having cf problems with s2 d2 and d3. anyway, if you get an answer can you email it to me at removed. i am a complete newbie to computers and dont really understand all the other help treads on this subject. thanks in advance...
Never did find the "culprit" for this problem. I replaced my existing hd with a larger capacity hd and simply reinstalled everything from scratch which eliminated whatever conflict created the original problem. It had to have been a software conflict with another program but I could not figure out which one. Good luck.
Got "Catastrophic Failure" when I tried to write to the DVD-ROM drive. => No write permission on target?
