I use the following programs to back-up my dvd's: dvdfab hd decrypter, fix vts, dvd shrink, and imgburn (all updated regularly). I use Sony DVD+R media burning at 4X for my backups and have never had any problems with quality and playback, etc.. I have backed up about 170 plus dvds. However, lately I get a backup that pauses during playback on my dvd player at the 2 second mark. When I fast forward to the next second it plays from there on perfectly. The movies that I have recently backed up that have this problem are Vatage Point, Semi-Pro, and 21. This doesn't happen on every movie, just periodically. I do remember that 3:10 to Yuma also had this problem but fixvts corrected it and I have been using fixvts ever since on all my backups. It may seem that this is petty but because I like my backups flawless it is a nuisance. It may be that these movies are just filled with trash and that is the way it is. Any comments or suggestions are welcome (please remember this is my first post)! Thanks in advance.
These movies may have a bad cell or two at the beginning. Using DVD Shrink in the re-author mode, remove the first few seconds to you get to where the movie actually starts. Then backup a couple of frames. I thought that problem was fixed with DVDFab. What version are you using? After doing this, I always check with PgcEdit to be sure the Time Map is correct.
I ripped those movies using DVDfab hd 5.0.5.0. I just upgraded to 5.0.6.0. last night. I will try your suggestion about removing some frames using dvd shrink in reauthor mode. However, since I have never done that before or used pgc edit, I will have to do some more research on how to properly use those tools to accomplish your suggestions. I always like learning something new anyway!! thanks for your time and possible solutions to my annoying problem!
Be sure to download all the PgcEdit plugins from the homepage. There are many excellent guides on site. http://download.videohelp.com/r0lZ/pgcedit/
I followed your advice on using dvd shrink in re-author mode to start the movie a few frames forward. I re-created the ISO and burned again with imgburn and this time I didnt have that pause at second #2. I'm not sure how pgcedit and the time map fits into this process but I will continue to dig into that program. So far it seems to be pretty detailed aka complicated! Thanks again for your help!
Glad to hear you got it fixed. Take your time with PgcEdit. It's a very useful tool that can make your DVD's play the way you want them to play plus a whole lot more.
