Its a lot easier than manually accessing if you recieve 800+ emails a day.

    Hotmail???
Not Hotmail.........Outlook Express.......I click on OE to check my mail......It tells me I have an email. I click on inbox....it shows number (1) email......there is nothing there. Next time I check it may say(10)emails......only there are nine, or (3)emails, but there are only two there.
    I have cleaned out everything.....defragmented.......ran scans........Still there!

    1. Arent you accessing hotmail via OE? If not, check with the email provider
    2. Remove the accounts and reinstate them :)

Hi, I had this problem a while back and I had to sort the e-mails by date, the unread one was near to the top then. Not sure how they get mixed up but it happened to me.

if you havent sorted it try this.

I think by removing the accounts and manually re-adding them to OE (rather than importing them) will clear you of that problem ... not sure but its worked for me in the past :)

Thanks all for your suggestions. I tried sorting emails by dates etc but the email in question is not there. Only the number(1) indicating I have an unread message. I will try uninstalling but need to move a mountain of folders first......yikes.....

Phantom email is gone...........nada........out of here!
I tried tools and options......clicked on Maintenace.Clicked on 'Clean up now' then tried them all....compact, Remove Messages, Delete, Reset. From there I went back to EDIT in the tool bar and clicked on MARK ALL READ. An hourglass popped up and after waiting a good five minutes.........I realized that Outlook had stopped responding!!!! Control/Delete........Access outlook again and the Phantom was GONE!!!!

Thanks everyone for your help. Much appreciated!

I have been using Outlook Express for several Hotmail accounts for years. Outlook Express is designed to work with Hotmail. They are both Microsoft products.
I rarely ever actually go to the Hotmail site. Just let OE do all the work.

    Easy to add in OE.
    Tools - Accounts.
    Add - Mail.
    Enter your Display Name.
    Enter your Hotmail email address.
    Enter your password.
OE knows all the correct setting to use.
