    Hi all,
Ive had this drive for a very long time, and its worked in the past on other OS 's (95, 98 etc). However, ive recently built a new computer, and installed Windows 2000 (running SP2). The CD-
RW was in an external box, as i have to share the drive with my dad, but i have since taken the drive out of the box due to problems i am having with the drive. Windows 2000 finds the drive no problems, and even reports its speed, 2x2x6x, and reads CD's fine. But if i try to run Nero (burning rom) (both my copy ver 5.5.3.5 and the demo 5.5.8.0), it causes Nero to lock up on the 'searching SCSI/IDE drives' (something like that) and the HD light to remain on. I did run a ASPI checker program, and found i hadn't got ASPI drivers, which i have downloaded and installed to version 4.7 (Adaptec). But still i can not write to the CD-
RW / copy CD's etc. I have also found running Nero's DriveSpeed, or even to look at the properties of the drive under Device Manager, to cause a lock up of that program. I have also checked the drive in my dads system running windows 98SE and it works fine, so i have crossed out the idea of the drive being duff.
Ive tried the CD-RW drive on both IDE channels (1 & 2) as master, but still no luck.
Has anyone got any ideas? Would updating the firmware help or would it be a waste of time (and how do u detect the version of the firmware?)?
Is there drivers for the CDD3610? - just wondering if this is the problem.
Thanks in advance all, any help / advice / ideas / ANYTHING !! will be appreciated :)

    I don't think it is windows 2000.
On my AMD Duron 1200 (Elitegroup K7VTA3) it doesn't work too. I have 256MB DDR-Ram and a 20GB harddrive. I tried master/slave and primary/secondary too but none of them worked. I only can read CD's. When I start nero the computer crashes.
In my P166 (83Mhz bus, so I can beat an 225 easily!) with Win'95 works perfect.

    Please someone, help me.

    Hi Echostorm,

That driverguide link does not work. By manual searching at driverguide.com I can not find them either.
Can you send Windows 2000 and XP drivers to me by e-mail (melse@xs4all.nl)?

    Thanks in advance!

I just wanted to add that I have the same Problem under Windows XP. (sorry, no real solution either :-( )

    (CDD 3610 internal, Athlon 1900+, MSI KT3 Ultra Board, IDE1: Two Harddisks, IDE2: DVD(Toshiba SD-M1612) + cdd3610)

When I start Nero it hangs on searching the SCSI/IDE Bus - when I open and close the drive Nero does proceed though. Then, when I try to burn a CD the drive does nothing (but I cannot open it anymore) and the progress bar just goes on for ever ... ( I can kill Nero, but the PC wont shuttdown correctly afterwards.)

The workaround that I have for the moment is that I still have win98 installed and there it works perfectly ...

    best regards, Bilbo

Can not get CDD3610 to format a CDRW using Direct CD under Windows 2000. Updated firmware to 3.09. Works ok for CDR and Easy CD Creator, but not for Drive Letter Access where you format a CDRW to use like a big floppy disk. Anyone else have this problem? Any Solution?
Tried HP DLA, and Write CD-RW v3, no luck. Using Easy CD Creator 5. Tried different machine, same result, so not the motherboard.

Philips considered these CDRWs as being part of the monitor group for the longest time, so if anyone looks for firmware, look for monitor downloads.

The problem is with windows 2000. I have tried the same drive with a half dozen software packages which say they support it and can get most to work - like easy cd creator, but not the direct cd portion which allows you drive letter access by formating a CDRW disk and using as a floppy. The Microsoft site will tell you that windows 2000 does not support the cdd3610.
