Relatively easy question for those who have worked on or been around the Philips DVP 642 player. I just got one, so I found that there are two firmwares (version 0531 and version 1109). Do I need them both, or can I live with just one. Can someone tell me the difference between the two?

Yes you should update both firmwares. One is for the drive itself--better reading of disks, second one is for the recorder--makes for
    playing more types or video.

If yours is a DVP642/37, there are currently no firmware updates.
I check with Philips. and they said to periodically visit their site to see if updates are available.
So far, I have not come across any movies that are not fixable, and usually, rather easy and little time involved.
See http://dvp642-information.tripod.com/ for a lot of infomation abount sound and video problems.
