I have been using Nero Photoshow Deluxe 5 to create a slideshow, which was working beautifully for several weeks. All of a sudden, Photoshow will no longer open at all. Each time I try, I get the error message: "An unexpected error has occurred. Photoshow has to close." I've rebooted my computer (Windows XP) numerous times - same thing keeps happening. As all was working fine the previous day, I thought I'd try doing a system restore back to the day before (where there was an available restore point) - but I got a message saying that nothing had changed. So - I figure there's nothing in the overall system causing the problem (right?). I'm thinking that I'm going to need to reinstall Photoshow (I do have my registration #). But... I foolishly didn't recently save the long show I spent many, many many hours working on - I'd just open Photoshow, and there it was for me to continue editing. Will the slideshow - with all the photos in the correct order, mp3 files in the right places, transitions, captions, etc. be lost if I uninstall and then reinstall version 5? I've been trying to figure out where all of the above files can be found so I can copy and save them - but it may be that I can't do that?? I did save an earlier version of the show as an exe file - and I see it in a folder called "My Photoshows." If the more recent version ends up not being accessible, will I be able to open and edit that exe file, or is is just a show that I can play? I made tons of changes since I saved that version, but if the newer show is lost then at least I won't have to start from scratch (hopefully). I plan to call the Nero tech support number ($1.29/minute) later today - but I don't have high hopes that they will really be very helpful. I also sent an email to the Nero support address, but don't expect to hear from them soon. Has anyone had any luck with Nero's tech support? Final few questions: ~ Would it be best to stick with version 5 when reinstalling? I chose that version because people seem to be saying they have fewer problems using it. It has all the features I want, so I don't feel the need to go to a newer version unless the big problem I'm currently experiencing is a known version 5 issue. ~ I also downloaded a captions/clip art pack when I got Photoshow. If I uninstall and then reinstall, will I be able to download it again (I have the registration #)? ~ Would it be possible to reinstall without totally uninstalling? (assuming that uninstalling will wipe out my slide show) -and- ~ Any tips on burning the show onto a CD for use in another computer that doesn't have Photoshow when the time comes? I do want to keep all of the songs, animated captions and transitions intact - so it looks like burning onto a DVD is not an option for me, right? (I've been reading that the process involved in saving slideshows doesn't always go smoothly...) Any help people out there have to offer will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
Update: I managed to find all of the files for my slideshow in a cache folder - took them out of the folder and saved them elsewhere, uninstalled Photoshow, reinstalled - and then replaced the files in the folder they came from. All works fine again and nothing was lost. Whew!
