Picture Compression in Microsoft Word 1997

    Hello all. I would like to know if anyone knows if it is possible to reduce the file size of pictures ploaced into a Microsoft Word 1997 file. I can not find such a function. When I place pictures into a Word file, they seem to take much more size than they actually re on their own as a jpg or other image type file.

    wow,and i thought i used an old office with office 2000.you sure its not time to upgrade?also open office is a free alternative.

    I think it's easier to use 1997 version than these newer versions.

    What is open office?
