Picture playlist in Media Player Classic not working

I am building a picture frame computer. It's sole purpose will be to show images and video in slide show fashion. I am going to install it in my hallway to look like a regular picture.

I have hit a bit of a snag in trying to find the right software for the job. Media Player classic is almost perfect but when it hits a picture in the playlist it will not move on to the next playlist item. It just tries to "play" the picture indefinitely. Irfanview also comes close to solving the problem but it will now play mkv files and I really want nice crisp high def video.

Any fresh thoughts on my problem would be most appreciated.
