    Hello,

Have been using x4 discs burning at x4

Now out of the blue these discs that i am trying to burn at x4 are taking the same amount of time as if i did x2...

Just wondered if anybody had a solution to the problem..

firmware 1.30, using bulkpaq generation 4 discs...

It took me 15 minutes to burn at 4x and 30 minutes at 2x and 58 minutes at 1x

Are you sure your settings is 4x not 2x?

Bulkpaq aren't very compatible at 4x with the Pioneer DVR105. It tends to prefer the better media like the Ritek G04 or Maxell, Traxdat and Verbatim brands. If you want no 'coasters' and 4x writing, buy the Pioneer own brand, if you are made of money!

    Thanx 4 da input guys....

deffo settings at x4 have burnt these before at x4 and only take 15 mins, now 30 mins for x4..
Ill take it that these are a bad batch of discs...that only let me burn at x2 (even though it will give you the option of x4)

will try out some other media.....

    cheers

BTW, some media manufacturers use other manfacturers disc id's.

This id is on the media and tells your burner what speed it is capable at, so you may only have a 2x disc (specs) but it has been id'd at 4x - these could cause damage to your writer without latest firmware updates..

As Oriphus stated - try using a know good brand such as ritek GO3 or G04.

I have a pioneer 103 - latest firmware and only burn at 2x max - this is done in 30mins - ok for me....
Will purchase a faster capable burner when this baby fades out into the night.....

Oriphus - dvdr107 - I thought it was the 106 - am I missing something here, please tell me I am, cos I am looking into the 106, but if there is going to be a 107, I sure would like to check the specs out before committing.

    Keep me posted.....

The DVR106 is out already £249 in UK from http://www.bigpockets.co.uk It allows 4x writing on both +/- DVD R, apart from that its virtually the same as the DVR105.
However, the DVR107 is coming out in December, it supports both +/- DVD R, but its mean feature is its ability to record at 8x instead of 4x. Imagine recording a DVD in 7mins 30 seconds or something.

    [bold]wait for it[/bold]

Yep i also had the same problem, the problem wasn't the media i noticed it started after installing several different burning programs(I can't pinpoint which one because i intstalled so many before noticing)I had to uninstall all of them which still didn't work in the end i had reinstall op system which sorted the problem,Also i asked one of my mates who sell's pioneer 105's in a shop said there are a lot people with the same problems he said the problem is something to do with certain programs interfering with the device buffer?I use princo whitetops 4X and have not had any problems since reinstalling op system and only nero and a few other burning programs

i'm not aware of any problems(although there are probaly a few)The shop where i go the only 4X media the guy sells are princo's whitetop because they are so good with the 105(He only sell's pioneer writers aswell)also in UK he sells them at £1 each when buyin in hundreds. Also he's told me in the past there the cheapest media he's sold with the least amount of comebacks:)

I figured it out. I had to enable DMA on my IDE Primary and Seconday controllers. Once I did that and rebooted my machine, I was able to burn a 4.5gig in 15mins!

This drive rocks.... it was a motherboard to device issue.

Check you Transfer modes on your controllers.

    Oriphus.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmm....

    Got me thinking now.

Big jump in a small space of time for Pioneer - have not seen any opinions re: 107.
I wonder whether it has been properly road tested yet.

Anyway, not rushing into anything just yet, cos my 103 is kickin butt for now. Cheers..

The only place i can think of to get a hold of an 8x writer, would be in yours, mine or anyone elses dreams. im kidding ;-)
Unfortunately, you cannot get a hold of either Writer or media until closer to december. If you dont have a DVD Writer and are looking to buy one, get a cheapo from the site i list. Then buy the DVR 107 by pioneer in december and sell your Pioneer DVR105.
