    Hi,

just bought it, put in into my machine. XP has recognized it correctly, but ...
    1. it's not possible to play any DVD back, it takes a lot of time to ready any regular DVD but then nothing happens. Neither Media Player nor PowerDVD can see the disc in the drive at all (but they can see the drive)
    2. not possible to copy DVD , neither to HD nor other DVD - I am using Nero 6.something.
Also, CloneDVD can not see anything there.
It's possible to burn CD's with it, but already got one CD-RW drive and I need to burn some of my movies onto DVD+R(RW)

Now ... shall I consider it broken and return it, or do You suggest anything else ?

    Hi, and Happy Holidays.

I have the retail version- A06 - of this drive.

I had a similar problem getting it to work on my W2K system.

It was there in My Computer, but wouldn't read any disks.

I finally solved the problem by setting the jumper to cable select and using an 80 wire IDE cable.

Don't know if this will work for you, but it's worth a try. Reset the jumper, and try it on either the master or slave position on the cable.

Now the drive works great. It is an awesome drive and so far I have been very happy with it.

    HTH,

    Hi,

and Merry Christmas to You. I have it already set on Cable Select, as that's the recommended way by the manufacturer (Dell). Currently it works as slave, I will try changing it into master, but I am full of doubts whether it's gonna help. It simply seems not to work :-(((. But I will give it a try while looking for any other possible solutions/suggestions

    Thanks and regars

    Oki doki,

I have put it into master position and ... nothing.
Seems I need to make a trip back to the shop and ask for a replacement :-(((.

If you're using Nero 6, I've heard a lot of people complain about problems burning data disks with version 6.

I am using Nero 6.0.0.28, and so far I guess I have been lucky- I have been able to burn data disks with no problem.

Many of the earlier Nero 6 versions were buggy, and many people have gone back to version 5.5.10.54, the last Nero 5.

If the drive works with the other software, I would have to think that Nero is the culprit here.

Gormar, I had the same problem, my 105 OEM Pioneer drive would read CDR and regular audio and data discs but wouldn't see DVD media. I took it back for a retail A05 replacement and had no trouble with it after.Defects happen, even with the names in the Biz.
