Last June I purchased a Pioneer DVDR-104. The unit has been working well until recently. After upgrading my computer to Windows XP and upgrading the firmware to v1.20 RPC-1 to make the drive region free, the unit doesn’t recognize any kind of DVD-RW or silver DVD-R, even the ones recorded with this same recorder. I tried the unit in other computers using different OS with the same result: it only works as a CDRW recorder and a DVD Player (with purchased movies), but it won’t record any DVD and it won’t even recognize most DVD-Rs. Any suggestion?
hi navarros i also have the DVDR-104 and have downloaded last night the 1.20 RPC-1.but have not tried it yet! so thank you for posting! if it was me a)i would try the firmware again (which ofcuz you've tried) b)turn off everything running in the background then try. c)go back and re-download and try. d)try a pioneer firmware it may help if you posted what firmware you had before the "upgrade" that all i can think of at the mo.i feel for you hope this helps-best of luck
http://kickme.to/dvd105s Try this link and download DVD104 1.31 universal firmware. Done it and works fine along with Region software such as Region Killer by Elaborate Bytes http://elby.ch/english/fun/software/index.html or DVD Genie http://www.inmatrix.com/files/dvdgenie_download.shtml
I'm just wondering....is this the same player installed in the VAIO MXS20? I ran CDVDINFO and it told me I have a: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104 Firmware Revision 1.30
It sounds the same. My firmware was 1.30 which indicates that it is the OEM 104 drive. If the firmware was 1.20 then I would suggest that it was a retail Pioneer A04 drive.
all these upgades sound nice but is there a firmware hack for pioneer 104 so that copyrighted cds can be copyied/riped????
The ability to "backup" copyrighted CD is down to the Software (ie Nero, CloneCD etc..) that you use. CloneCD claims to be able to make 1:1 copys of all CD's and there is a database availible with presets to bypass most cd protection systems. Try www.gamecopyworld.com
