I haven't yet seen any posts about the v1.12 firmware.

I just received my Pioneer 107 and promptly upgraded it to the v1.12 from Pioneer's site.

The drive included a Piodata 8x DVD-R. The disc burned perfectly at 8x with Nero 6.3.

I have read all the posts about hacked firmware that allows 8x burning. The Pioneer site states:

"Firmware Update 1.12 improves writability/playability and expands 8X media support with Daxon, Prodic, RITEK, and Mitsubishi Chemical/Verbatim"

Given the above, is there still a benefit to the hacked firmware - perhaps faster ripping, and 8x burning to media that are not listed above?

Would I be killing my drive to flash it with the hacked 1.10 firmware after flashing it to the official 1.12?

    Thanks to all.
