I've just updated the firmware on my Pioneer DVR-108 to the latest version [1.20]. The reason I went ahead and did this was that when I put in a FujiFilm 16X blank, it would only show 4X as the highest write speed. Also, the Verbatim discs I was using only would write at 12X. I thought that a firmware update would correct this. Anyone else having this problem or can someone tell me what it is that I can do to get my drive to read these at maximum write speed. Thanks!
As for your problem of I wouldn't worry about it. It is recommended not to burn any faster than 4X speed. If you burn too fast, it increases the chances of causing errors or skipping. That's not to say that people do not burn at higher speeds, but most people take it slow. I burn at 4X, and it only takes about 12 minutes. Are you in a hurry or something? Best of luck, JBurden
JimiMack, There are many variances when ripping/burning when it comes to speed. For instance, multitasking can slow down both ripping/burning speeds, transcoding can eat up ripping speeds due to compression levels. Burning speeds on my system are rarely ever at my selected speed, 8x. You could run Nero's speed test, and it might give you some clue. Also, do a google search of your burner. CDfreaks.com ususally has nice reviews on burners, and they do extensive testing on the burners, including reading/writing speed tests. HTH, Rich
No, I'm not in a big rush. I've just been burning at 8X with no problems for months. Buying a brand new pack of DVD+R's that say "16X" on the label, and not getting anything better than 4X just makes me wonder what in the heck is wrong.

I have a DVR-108 I can normally write Infiniti's 8x DVD+R at 12x speed After loosing my system and having to do a rebuild I could only get 4x write. I also had to buy a new batch of Infiniti's, the only difference was the colour and that they now asvertised 16x. My System should have continued at 12x write with firmware 1.14 but just would'nt. After a firmware upgrade to 1.20 I got my 12x write back, which does not make much sense baecause firmware is kept on the drive and a system rebuild would not have affecetd this, unless the media had changed in this time. I have never got 16x write, I suspect there may be media out there that will be compatible at 16x but unless you try loads you'll never know.
