My computer, when i bought it, came with a CDRW and a DVD-ROM drive. I recently bought a LiteOn DH20A3P DVDRW drive for my pc to replace the CDRW drive but had issues and after all kinds of attempted fixes I took it back to the shop for a replacement. I added a couple of quid and bought a Pioneer DVR-12D DVDRW as the replacement.

The problems with both drives are identical so I'm finding it hard to believe it's a drive hardware fault. They both read DVDs and CDs oerfectly and wrote CDs perfectly. However, they refuse to write to DVDs. I've tried TDK, Imation, Memorex, Sony, Tesco own brand, Asda own brand and JVC DVDs but neither would burn them and instead I have about 35 coasters now.

I have updated firmware, tried different jumper settings (master, slave and cable select), tried different software such as Nero 7, DeepBurner, DVD Decrypter, MagicIso, ImgBurn etc. I have tried removing the Uppel and Lower Filters in regedit but there weren't any. I have even tried installing a fresh copy of Windows. It happens whether i try to burn files, video, image or anything else onto DVDs.

    Anyone got any suggestions please?

Forgot to add too that the Pioneer, as the LiteOn did, locks up after i've tried to burn a DVD. That is, it will not eject the DVD and I have to either force ejection or restart the computer.

Edit: I was asking what program you used to burn but re-read the first post and saw what you tried to burn with.

You aren't by chance using InCD to burn those discs, are you? If so, don't.

A shot in the dark here. Unplug one of the burners, boot up, and try to burn some data files, using the Nero Express program.

I'm having trouble burning/writing and in some cases reading with my Pioneer DVR-112D.

I have un-installed the drive then re-installed the updated driver. It reads/plays DVD's. It plays audio factory audio cd's, but not some burned cd's and most importantly, it does not write/burn cd's. It acts as if there is no drive in the cd.

When I run a check (right clicking on the icon for the drive, Properties, Hardware) it says that the device is working properly. When I troubleshoot in the same window, I've exhausted the possible problems with the exception of determining whether or not my device uses SCSI or IDE to communicate with the computer.

Any helpful suggestions before I haul this thing to Best Buy?

    Thanks

This thread has been dead since October of last year. Why did you hijack it and start another, listing the same problem?

    That is poor forum etiquette.
