Here is the new Pioneer DVR106 for only £169. I bet you are kicking yourself if you bought it at £249 a week ago!! http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/product.php?product_id=716&session=7a72b8e5c86a9c5fdf2a083f2d1a1937
*Kick* I've had DVR106 for months! No... Wait.. It's the Sony DRU-500AX with identical specs (apart from the 2MB buffer memory - 500AX has 8MB). Well it was a "bit" more expensive than DVR-106 is now. Damn. They're practically giving them away!
Apparently not. I haven't tried those myself, but I had a bunch of gen2 white datasafe -Rs that Sony didn't fancy. Coaster after coaster after coaster.
Datawrite reds work perfectly in the Sony (2.0f) at one and two speed. Can't get them to write at four speed though (with Nero). It appears to write at four speed to them but it still takes 30 minutes per movie (approx)
If you cant get them to work at 4x speed, then tell me how that is them working perfectly? The usually do not tend to work to well with that particular make, ie Sony
Raymondo, I've had my DRU-500 stuck at 1x/2x for 4x media sometimes. Nothing a reboot wouldn't cure. DRU-500 seems to have an automatic detection of appropriate writing speed (I remember reading something to that extent in the changelog of v2.0f firmware). Especially if I burn at 4x, and rip at 12x simultaneously from and to the same HDD, Sony drops the writing speed. Apparently my HDD can't keep up with it. Anyways, that seems to drop the writing speed from 4x to 2x. Nero shows that the media is capable for 4x writing, and lets you choose the speed, but the writing, just like in your case, takes place at 2x. You might want to check your system settings and verify that you have DMA on etc.. Does Nero detect the media as 4x capable? Hmm.. This is dangerously off topic. 0=)

I'm pretty sure you can find the unit for $280 in the US. eg. http://store.yahoo.com/tonyh/pidvdvcdinat1.html_X_X_X_X_X_[small]Jari Ketola Administrator http://www.AfterDawn.com [/small]
Yup. $280 was just £169 converted to dollars. =) The U.S. prices are often 10-20% lower than the prices in Europe due to import taxes and VAT.
