Pixelization and freezing of dvd playback

I have been using DVDSanta and WinAvi 6.3 to convert avi files to dvd format and burning them with Nero 6.6.0.16. Some of the movies have come out good, others have pixelization that occurs near the last few chapters and some freeze and will not play. I have Sony Dvd players which are the worst critic of bad data. My Cyberhome and Apex players play some that the Sony's won't. I have used Divfix to check the avi files and it says they are all right, I have a Plextor 712A and a Nec 3540A burners. I burn at 2x or 2.4x depending on whether or not it is -R or +R media. I use Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r and Taiyo Yuden 8x dvd+r media. The -r is actual Taiyo media, the +r is Sony 8x made in Japan, and Fuji 8x made in Japan. Both say Taiyo by dvdinfo. I do not know what it is that causes the pixelization. Should I switch to another software, learn the long way and use TmGenc or something like that or what. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like over compression. If it's possible, turn off compression until files are converted then when read to burn if compression is needed to fit to one disc then do so.
