Hi All got a few questions so might as well start somewhere Is it ok to use my plasma tv as a monitor???????
yeah im using mine as we speak, my only suggestion is set a screensaver up for 3 minutes so that when your not using it, it doesnt burn the screen. other than that all is ok.
I would advise against that, and get a LCD or LCD LED monitor instead. You'll just be asking for it to get image retention or worse image burn. Full-screen normal TV watching is sometimes the best to get rid of IR, not a screensaver, unless every pixel of that screensaver is constantly moving, like some scrolling functions with most plasmas. I have a LCD LED for my monitor, and a Plasma in Theatre Room for movies, and I would never even consider having a static image on it, even for 5-10 minutes. Plasma were made for movies, not computer monitors. You can find great LCD monitors for cheap almost anywhere now.
I have been using my plasma for 6 months now in constant use for my pc and never had any problems. my screensaver is set to black/grey/white scrolling bars. and is on a 1 minute timer. But agreed an lcd is preferable.
What model do you have if you mind me asking? I'm sure a PC would look great on a Plasma, it's just from my personal experience I would never use it as a monitor. I have the Samsung PN50B850, the picture is excellent, but man does this TV ever get image retention so easily. Companies have add features to limit image retention/burn-in, but unfortunately they still haven't gotten rid of it permanently.
Samsung 50 inch Plasma (PS50A457P1D) This TV does come with anti burn/retention technology. I also use black/grey/white scrolling bars as a screensaver set to 1 minute, as the TV uses this also. I do agree with you post before last, LCD is better for pc display. I use my TV alot for my graphic design and i am currently looking at a new LED TV to replace my current plasma. Here is the model: Samsung UE46C7000 What do you think, i will be using it alot but if you have any suggestions im open to all, but i do use it mainly for graphic design and need top quality.
I have a 3+ year old pioneer screen and I connect via DVI( as they didnt have hdmi when I got mine) and I have no problems using it as a PC monitor. I think a screen saver is a good idea though u dont need to set it for 3 mins. Set it for 15 or so. as long as the plasma is 720+ you will be fine. The only problem is the screen size, if you have a large screen its a bit overkill for me. I personally think 30" is about the most you need for a PC as when I try to play a shooting game on my 52" its a little hard not to get shot all the time as you dont see em coming as well as you do on a smaller screen. The best thing to do is have one screen for PC and another for TV/PC as most all graphic cards have dual outs. I only use my plasma/PC connection to watch movies off my PC on the plasma.
