I must first admit that i have never tried subtitles before. I read on this page that I could use media player classic and add subtitles from there. I also read that i have to set the Direct Show Video to VMR7 renderless or VMR9 renderless, but none of them wont work.

I keep getting this error message right befor i should open the file (so it cant be wrong subtitle file, because i havent even open this file) : to load subtitles you have to change the video renderer type and reopen the file.

what is wrong? i have tried diffrent movie files.

I had some similar problems in the past and found out that reencoding the avi in VirtualDubMod to create a file with CBR (constant bit rate instead of VBR) gets rid of the error message. (Get's rid of the stutter-effect that appears in some subtitled avi-files too). Subtitling shouldn't be any problem either.
