I am trying to play an avi file on my LG LCD TV. It plays ok on the PC with sound and picture. I have connected my PC with a DVI to HDMI converter and then HDMI input on TV. I can access the Desktop and mouse curser on the TV but when playing the AVI film I get no picture but have the sound on my PC. I am a complete novice at this so any help would be appreciated.

Hey guys, I have a 51" Hitachi rear projection tv that is about 3 years old. I want to hook it to my computer to mainly watch movies on. I have had two different video cards and neither seem to work. There is just wavy lines on the tv. I have tried using a VGA to component cable and an S-video cable but have had the same luck with both. Its not an LCD or flatscreen. Is there something I am doing wrong? I have tried every configuration that there is on the tv and the video card. I have had 2 monitors hooked up to my computer. A computer monitor and i have a 32-inch lcd hooked up right now using the vga input but my 51-inch has all but vga. I don't really want to waste money buying a dvi cable to test it out if the others don't work. Please help.

DVI carries no audio therefore even if you use a DVI to HDMI converter you will still need audio from your pc to the tv.

I know. I don't care about the audio. I need the video. I have a cable for the audio already and it works but the video doesn't. The only reason I would get the dvi cable would be if I wasn't satisfied with the quality.
