For info only: I had major problems reading a DVD-VR mode DVD+RW recorded on Philips DVD+RW media on either a Philips DVDR-3380 or a DVDR-3480 standalone recorder on my WinXPSP2 PC, I had no problems using other standalone players like my older SONY DVP-NS300, also newer laptops with DVD RW DW-Q520A had no problems reading the discs either. I also knew that Philips pioneered the DVD+RW technology and it was the best format to use as it did not need finalizing like its DVD-RW cousin. So why could I not read the DVD+RW DVD-VR mode disc on my PC ? My drive is a NEC3500AG DVD-ROM DVD+R/RW CD-R/RW maybe 1 on 20 would work with sufficient info recorded ie 5mins HQ. Alot of time waisted and coasters were produded. Seraching the internet for an answer was difficult even after countless firmware upgrades still not joy. I decided to buy a Philips SPD6005T DVD-RAM DVD+R/RW DVD-R/RW for £35 and straight away result all was working fine. Using TMPEGXpress to read in the DVD-VR and could then edit the programs with 100% success. If you to have problems ditch your older PC DVD recorders and buy new Philips for DVD+RW media or buy Sony for DVD-RW. I can now use about 10 DVD+RW (1,000 times each) to record all I need from the TV then rip them to my PC and create excellent DVD +R/-R in DVD-Video format for all my family to enjoy. This way I can save on discs (coasters) and remove all the annoying adverts and I never need to finalize a DVD which can cause errors. Spideray.
