Hi all, Newbie here. I just joined this site to try and get some help with burning movies. I have been getting mobies from a web site in torrent form. I change them from avi to vob (dvd) form. I use WinAVI to convert them. I have a 50/50 shot at getting a copy that will play on my dvd player. I use Sonic RecordNow to burn them to dvd+r's. (I found out the hard way that my burner won't recognise the dvd-r's - At least I don't think it will.) Is this error message because of my dvd player or my burner? And what can I do to get a copy that will play on the TV all the time. Cash is low (I am on fixed income) so buying a bunch of expensive programs is out of the question. Hope someone can help this dummy newbie. <vbg>
Convert to DVD using 'DVD Flick'. In 'Project Settings' 'Video' 'Target Format' set 'NTSC' for North America or 'PAL' for the rest of the world. The program will optionally burn the project to disk using the included burning software (IMGBurn) - use 'Verbatim' brand disks and burn at 4x or half the rated speed on the label. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_flick.cfm
Thank you attar for your answer, but I think the problem is with my dvd player. My one daughter took ALL the movies I have burned that wouldn't play for me and all but 4 or 5 would play on HER dvd player. So the first of July I am buying myself a present of a new dvd player. <g> But I will be buying Verbatum blanks from now on and I have a better burning program now. It's not Flick, but it is the same one that aXXo person uses. Maybe someday I will learn what I am doing with this stuff. hehehe
Attar gave you great advice! You have a compatibility problem. there are plenty of reasons why certain media brands won't play in other players: 1. burning speeds: burn at 4x so there will be less writing errors (rule of thumb is to burn at half the rated speed of the disk--8X disk burn at 4x). 2. read manual for your stand alone player and use the disks that will play in your player. If your player is less than 2 yrs old then it should play the + or - R disks! I said SHOULD that's why you read the manual. 3. try booktyping your drive to DVd-ROM so it will make your +R disks more compatible to players. Read this: http://k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php 4. make sure that there are no finger prints or scratches on your disk that make it hard for the player to read the disk! *******5. use good quality media (rule of thumb....buy the ones that are Made in Japan.)Taiyo Yuden is the only brand I use! Verbatim is also top notch disk and is the only exception to this rule....some Verbatims are made in Taiwan and they are top notch! Using quality media that is most recognized by players/recorders stop MANY problems like the ones you are getting! 6. and don't burn too close to the outer edge of the disk ..... which will make the disk unreadable! but using good media you will be able to burn close to the edge better than lesser quality media. Just in case I only burn no closer than 4400MB, so if you can set your programs to that, all the better! follow these little tips of the trade and you'll have better success! good luck. also read this: http://www.cdfreaks.com/reviews/Why-DVDRW-is-superior-to-DVD-RW/ why the +R media is better than the -R media
Thanks to all for your suggestions, I WILL follow them. (grin). Buying the new DVD Player (an Insigna) solved the problem with not being able to read the disks. HURRAY!!!!! Thanks again. TheElf310
