    Why do I have troublre playing back certian backup copies that I make?
    I am using Sony DVD-R 8X. I am buring at 4X with Recode and AnyDVD. Nothing is running in the background.
    Sometimes the DVD's freeze in my Toshiba player, but when I play the same DVD on my PC (Sony burner) the DVD plays. I don't think it's a bad burn otherwise it shoudn't play on my burner.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi there,

    Here's my 2 cents...

    I have a Toshiba DVD Player, and it's picky as hell :)
    The LG one in the living room will play anything.

    Try to burn one at 2x and see if it will help your Toshiba player.

    Try tools:

    VSO Inspector v1.1 --> http://www.vso-software.fr/
    DVDInfoPro --> http://www.dvdinfopro.com

    Both those software can scan you media, and see if there's read (Sectors) errors.

    Run one of those burned one into those software and see if you get read errors.

    Maybe burning at 4x works, no burning errors, but your DVD Player might have problems reading it.

    Cheap media can also be a problem.

    I burn everthing at 2x and my Toshiba will play them.
    Even at 4x I personally get playback issues.
    Yes, they are cheap media.

    My next buy will be Taiyo Yuden for sure !!!

    You could also try some good quality dvd+r media and booktype them dvd-rom (most compatable format) with your sony burner. I booktype all my backups dvd-rom and am yet to have any problems in any stand-alone dvd players I've tried them in. It would be worth a try if the previous suggestions don't help.

    I have to agree on Toshiba's being picky on what they like, this is the standalone I use to test out my burns because if it plays on the Toshiba it will play anywhere. Make sure you are using good media, Toshiba likes Verbatim. Since I know have two burners that booktype I have been trying out +R Verbatim and my Toshiba is having no problem. Check and make sure your firmware is up to date, and your burner is not having a problem reading the media.

    I just got another 50 pk of verbatum 8x dvd+r hub printables (MCC003) for $29.95 free shipping from amazon.com and am waiting for my $10.00 mail in rebate. $19.95 for a 50 pk of MCC003 hub printables, I don't think that can be topped.

    710A I believe is the model number of my SOny burner. Dual layer up to 16X burn speed.

    How do I check the firmware and how do I update the firmware?

    I see mention of Verbatium +R. My Toshiba player will not play +R discs. Are the -R just as good?

    Just open Decrypter, go to the tools tab, then drive, then capabilities. You should see your drive and then the current ver next to it. Right now it is BYX4

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=30

    My toshiba will only play -R and have used this format for along time before I got a drive that could booktype. The -R is excellent also.
