DVDs that I have had for awhile are now starting to get glitchy when played. It seems that when the DVDs get hot is when it happens. I a using labels on them and I am wondering if they are possibly trapping in heat or something and causing them to screw up??

    Yes,

I put labels on some of my dvd's when I first started backing up.

Soon realised this was causing problems, best to get inkjet printables and a printer like canon ip 5000.

I too fell into the trap of putting sticky labels on my DVDs when I started out and encountered the same problem. I was using Stomp labels. After several attempts at removing them I found the simplest method was to soak them in a dish of water for about 3 hours, after their soak you can peal off the paper and goo very easily. The goo sticks to your fingers so DON'T touch the data side, edges only. All of the labelled discs played flawlessly once they were cleaned up.
    Good Luck.

Yeah, labels have always caused problems on DVD's. I used to hear that warm (not hot) soapy water worked well for removing them.
