playback of the matrix 1 dvd

i have a problem with my dvd... it won't play on my dvd drive. i have played various dvds on my drive but for some reason the matrix won't play, when i open the drive the drive appears blank.if it is any help "the matrix revisited" does work and can be played. Is there some sort of protection on the dvd or is the disc just sh1t?...which leads to my problem ...it plays on my stand alone dvd player. (bought for €19.99, thank you very much)
has anyone been able to play the matrix 1 region 2 on their dvd-drive? i have virtual drives enabled would this make a difference?
i have a philips dvd+rw-d28.
