Won +R +RW recorder. Recorded short tracks for trial viewing in PC. Discovered DVD drive would not recognise disc format. Inserted new multiformat drive, LG GSA 416BA. Inserted +RW disc.Have dual OS drive Win ME/XP. In XP media player 9 showed thumbnails of first three tracks and froze. Pressed "Play". Words 'now playing' and 'finished' showed. Otherwise media player 9 non-functional. ME + Power DVD instantly froze, showed nothing. Commercial discs play on both OS's no problem. Query - is this disc effect due to multiple tracks competing for equal opportunity or to inadequate players? If so can someone(s) provide simple step by step process(es) to assist DVD pilgrim towards target of continuous easy playing tracks.
Your Problem could very well have to do with how you are Authoring these DVD"s...You know that you Can"t just Burn Files to a DVD and expect them to Play in a DVD Player, Files Must be "Authored" to DVD useing a "DVD Authoring" program... So why don"t you Explain how you are Createing these DVD"s and then Maybe someone Can tell you were you are Going Wrong??? Cheers
Err, they already explained that... With a DVD recorder. Are you finalising the discs before trying them on the PC?
Thanks for these prompt responses. As far as I know +/- RW discs do not need finalising, only +/-R discs do. The video snips on disc is "raw footage" recorded straight from TV broadcasts unauthored, untouched, quite virgin. The system is set to DMA mode. The media used is Phillips discs. The DVD plays OK in a different multiformat drive in a TV combi but not in this PC LG drive which inclines me to think that this is a problem that requires the proper application of some software. I have read in a different strand that some other poor fellow is experiencing an ongoing clash between Nero 6 and his LG 416 drive so I haven't tried using Nero 6 except to successfully burn CD's. I am believe that two popular freeware programmes permit DVD decryption and burning to hard drive etc. for reburning to DVD but I simply want to view the disc in the ROM drive.
My error. I tried the disc in a Phillips TV combi multiformat drive and it played. I assumed that if I installed a multiformat drive in the PC the disc would play in that drive as well. It appears not. I shall finalise the disc and try again.
Further search informs me that RW discs need finalising. However, the DVD recorder menu will only permit R discs to be finalised. Menu for RW discs has a button that is labelled 'make compatible' which I have used.Whatever 'Make compatible' did to the disc has not enabled it to be made compatible with the PC OS. ME OS still freezing.( Do I need a windows ME codec?) XP shows thumbnails but no picture play possible only words.
