hi everyone. i just got a portable dvd player that is able to play dvd-r/rw. i was wondering if avi files could be burned to a dvd and play correctly in a dvd player that does not have divx support, like the phillips one,and if not, is the best solution to convert them to vob files or something else. im an extreme newbie to posting on forums and such, so if i should not be posting this in this section could some pls tell me. thanks a lot all.
Not gonna happen without encoding of some sort. Have a look at http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/43085 and http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/57227
grrr. ive had so much trouble trying to reply to this. dumb hotmail. anyways thanks for sucvh a quick reply. ill check out those links. i was also wondering would i also have to encode teh files if i were gonna burn them as a vcd instead of a dvd. thanks for the help.
I just bought the Philip's DVD Player, so do I just copy a DIVX AVI file to a data CD within Nero and it will work in the player or do I have to select one the other formats. Please let me know.
Unless the DVD player contains the codecs required to decode and process the avi-format videos and the audio streams inside those videos (which are most probably MP3 format) then you won't be able to play em. Players such as the KiSS DVD player and Crystal DVD player can play back AVI format (including DivX and XViD amongst other formats), as well as standard DVDs. All other players can ONLY play DVD format files, unless specifically stated.
Damnit, stupid internet connection. Double post =/ <snip> _X_X_X_X_X_[small][23:47] <+cjdawg> can I use DeCSS for web design then?[/small]
If the DVD player can play the AVI, do you just use data CD with Nero and copy the one file to the CDROM and then your good to go.
Yes... ... but only if the DVD player supports reading the AVI file structure, AND has built-in support for the various codecs used to encode the audio and video inside the avi file.
