    Hi,
Recently I just got a new dvd player to suppliment my new Samsung LCD 16:9 HDTV. I have 16:9 aspect ratio divx and xvid files on my computer. I have burnt them to dvd before and they show up on my tv with no black bars. I just got a new dvd player (I believe it is the Philips dvp642) that plays xvid and divx movies beautifully. However, when playing these 16:9 divx movies from the dvd player (burnt the divx files directly to cd), there are black bars on the top and bottom. The system setting in the dvd player is 16:9 television. Any ideas?

    Thanks

As I understand it the 642 and other ESS players just aren't any good for 16:9 displays. Don't own a 642 myself, but you see posts all the times of trouble with 16:9 displays.

Thanks. Do you have any suggestions for a dvd player that is capable of playing xivd and divx files on a 16:9 display?

In a way. MTK = MediaTek. They make chipsets, not the actual players though.
