I am looking for a solution to play NDS roms, I don't know what to get. I keep seeing DS-Xtreme and M3 DS Simply. I am thinking that the M3 is better because you can switch out the memory if needed, but i don't understand this whole passme thing. In one place I see that M3 needs a passme in the GBA slot and another i see it says it is included in the NDS card. Can someone please explain what the passme does and weather it is built in or not. Thanks
i was in the same boat 2 days ago. i would go with the m3 ds simply. all you need is: the m3 simly a microsd card a card reader (to get stuff on the card) firmare/software it goes into slot 1 and thats it. as long as you have the proper firmware (released at launch), you can play .nds software. it won't be out til the 27th or early january depending on who you ask. general prices for this thing is 44.95$-49.95$ things you DON'T need to play ds backups: a flashcart in the gba slot (it's a slot 1 only device, so no problems) *but if yu want to play gba games, u'll have to get a flashcart a passme (the simply is one)
ok thanks, so what do you mean by firmare/software are you refering to the .nds roms or do i need to find firmware for the M3. Also is it drap and drop like the DS-X or is it some specail thing. Then I see some games need to be patched to play with some of these devices do the games need to be patched. Thanks
firmware: let's the simply operate, kinda like it' os. (released on launch) software: from .nds to whatever the simply can emulate (i think nes, turbografx, etc.) drag and drop onto microsd (from pc w/ the reader and adapter). remove, plug microsd into simply, play (after choosing game). no patching, clean dumps (a big advantage of slot 1 devices)
ok so where can i get this firmware(is it one of those things that you are not supposed to post a link to, if it is can find it) and if it is just drag and drop then is has pc/mac/linux support right? Thanks
firmware will be released on launch (dec 27th or early january). i said that 2x already... i pretty sure we're not supposed to provide links tho... but then again there are threads about where to get backups (which i thought were'nt allowed (like the ps2 section)) also don't say that it's os is pc/mac/linux because people actually are working to get that on the ds... i've seen mac and linux so far. drag, drop, install, reset, blahhh... specs at launch...
o i am sorry i didnt understand that it was not released yet. I dont think you understood me either, i did not mean it would run windows or mac or linux but i meant as far as loaing the roms on to the micro sd card. Thanks for all of the help, I will probally end up geting a M3.
ahaa. well about os support: i don't think it matters because your using clean dumps (same idea as putting any file on a usb drive; installs of any kind (in terms of nds rom playability) happens on the simply of course so there's no problem there). i believe m3 supports only windows right now for other features (vid., music, emu.) but we'll see at launch. i thought you knew it was a pre-order because you said you saw it...
me too... T_T imma newbie at all this stuff. im getting an m3 lite perfect and the simply when it launches. if you need help when we both get it, just ask. my ds is 4 days old now!!! w/ no ds games... T_T... yet!!!
the m3 lite is a flash cart that plugs into the gba slot. the lite vers. fits snug into the ds lite (same casing as that cover thingy). it can play gba roms with no patching and nds backups with patching via a passme (passcard3, supercard, passkey, to name a few) that is inserted through the ds slot. it aso has media functionality (vids, music, txt, emultors). now supposedly (since it aint out yet) the simply can do the same (minus having to patch nds games, since its already in slot 1, and no gba games at all [emus will probably be developed later]). also, the simply can act as a passme if you already have a flashcart (the m3 lite for example). this would allow gba functionality [through the m3 lite] and give you the option of having twice as much potential memory (they both take microsd's).
I just bought the M3 Simply from that http://www.consolesource.com website (I don't like ordering overseas, I can trust Canada and wait a few days after launch, it's fine by me) and then a 1 GB Kingston Micro SD chip from newegg. My labtop already has a SD card reader and the microSD chip came with a SD card so you can put files on it. From what I understand you take your backup NDS games, in unaltered form and just drag and drop them onto the microSD. From there, put the microSD into the MS Simply and then into the DS...from there select the game and you're good to go. The only issues I've heard is when people use 2GB+ cards and they can only read the first 2-3 games on it and nothing else works unless they clear the other those first games off. I decided not to be greedy and go with the 1GB everyone seems to know works. I'd highly recommend this, but as far as we can tell thus far there's nothing else we're going to need. It's obviously impossible to tell untill it masses itself in the states, but from what we can tell...for $80-$100 at the most you can easily play your backups and instead of reading information from 2 slots you're reading it from 1, which means the battery life stays the same as if you were playing a DS game. The only downside to this is if you want to play GBA games on it there will probably be no support with this, but if the DS it all you want there's better thing.
Ok so i just bought a M3 simply, I will let you know how it works when i get it in the mail. Thanks for all of your help.
I just bought an M3 DS Simply too and I got mine from Divineo which looks like they're shipping from the US. I will report on how quickly I get mine and that should give others an idea of how long we might expect to wait in US shipped. I keep reading good things about the M3 Simply online and can find next to no information about the R4D4 although they appear to be almost exactly alike. I looked around and didn't see anywhere that was shipping the R4 within the US though.
