On to the question...A computer only has a set number of times you can set the region of the drive before it locks and you are stuck. Is there a way to watch movies (dvd's) that are other regions (2=UK, etc.) without having to keep changing the region of the drive back and forth between different regions, so that the number of times you can change it never gets to zero and I am stuck? Possibly using some kind of software I can download? I am so sorry if this doesn't make sense. Reply letting me know that you got lost trying to figure out what I said and I will come up with a better way to ask my question. Thanks in advance! ^_^
You can only change the region setting on a drive 5X I believe. When you backup a movie using DVD Shrink, you specify that the copy be region free, which will have no region marking on it and should play on a player from any region. What you may want to look into is if you really are talking about converting a PAL disc into a NTSC disc. I don't want to copy any dvd's. When I say play the dvd's I mean the original copies. For example Farscape Season 2 dvd's that I have which are in PAL format (region 2) which I want to watch on my laptop. Is there a program available that will let me do so without having to change the region setting on my dvd drive, and then back to region 1 when i want to watch a region 1 dvd (original as well, non copied)?
Not that I'm aware of...like I said you won't be able to play a PAL DVD in a NTSC player, the region is not as much of a problem...I don't think.
AnyDvd will make all your drives region free, it tricks windows into thinking that the drive is region free, so you can play which ever region you want, without worrying about the region lock out probs caused by the manufacturers obsession in controlling our lives!

I agree, AnyDVD is the best for the job and is the best decryption utility around. DVD Region+CSS Free is another good one, but they don't update the decryption software as often as AnyDVD. Just wanted to mention AnyDVD isn't the only app to make DVDs region free. By the way a consumer has five changes with a new drive. Some require setting the region at start up leaving 4. Some let the drive remain region free. At least my HP works that way. My Plextor required I set the region. Then the vendor can change the drive 4 times. So, normally there is a total of nine times a drive region can be changed. Just a bit of trivia.
