So my 360 has been banned, and can't download whatever it needs to download (codec? optional media update?) to play video files through my network.

I did a search through the afterdawn forum and found these posts:

    the thread is here:

can someone elaborate on this? would it work?

    clicky for tversity

this program is great for streaming media. check it out. even if you aren't familiar with it... you'll have it up and running in less than 10 minutes.

omg you were so totally wrong :(

i spend like 30 minutes setting it up, and finally got the 360 to detect tversity. i attempt to play the media file...NOPE.

"A media update is required to play this content. blah blah blah Status Code: 51-C00DF236"

ARRRGGGHHHHHHHHHH this is so sad. my 360 is completely useless now as a "media center." i have a friend with an unbanned 360...should i try the hard drive thing?

Nope, just go in to the TVversity settings and tick the "Transcode All" button, you will then be good to go.

You might need to also refresh your media library too (the big refresh button).

Let us know if it doesnt work

yea it still doesn't work, even after restarting computer, xbox 360, and refreshing my media library

when i try to play the file it says i need the optional media update (probably for the codec or whatever), which i can't get cus my 360 is banned

i thought maybe my 360 just couldn't play ANY videos, but it played downloaded videos i had before getting banned just fine.

has anyone tried the hard drive swap thing? i'm not even sure how that would work.

WTF i just found this on xbox-scene.com forum:
goddamnit when i try to play filed it just asks me to update :(

k so it's not the program, it has to be my network or my 360 right?

what operating system are you using and what files are you trying to stream?

you might need the ffdshow codecs installed. google that and download it. i just had to do that recently for my buddy who was trying to stream xvid/avi files on vista.

using windows 7 home premium and trying to stream avi files

i'm pretty sure i have the codecs. i installed the k-lite codec pack, and can play every video file i have on my computer.

i found out about another program called mezzmo...but i still got the error code 51-C00DF236 when trying to play it. super sad face :(

Edit: I'm thinking about paying my friend to swap 360's with him. His is currently not banned, because he has never connected it online. However, he did flash his drive to 1.6 lite-on ixtreme, and played non-stealth games on it. If I downloaded the optional media update on his 360, and then it got banned, would i still be able to stream videos? Or do you have to be constantly hooked up online just to stream videos?

just a thought... are you signing on and then trying to stream through tversity? if so... try not signing in and then just going to the video tab and selecting tversity: pc from there and give it a whirl.

even if you download the media update from xbl and then get banned you won't be able to stream through media center. it has something to do with copyrights on avi/divx files or something like that. so by signing on... you're agreeing to the terms and able to stream those files (that's a very shitty explanation but i think it's something along those lines).

even though you have the codecs... try downloading the ffdshow codec, restarting your pc and xbox and then try again.

yea i tried signing off to no profile (i've been trying to use a profile before this)

still get an error message when i try to stream the file, both from tversity and mezzmo

i don't know why i'm the only one who can't seem to do it. other people seem to get tversity to stream to their banned 360s fine

and damn about the "even if you download the media update from xbl and then get banned you won't be able to stream through media center." freakin microsoft. should let us do whatever we want with our 360 if it's offline...

    couple questions...

    1) can you see tversity through your 360?
    2) this may seem stupid as well... but after you checked the "always" option for transcode... did you click save?

and you can definitely play these files on your win 7 machine?

haha no it's not that dumb. i didn't click save at first, but later on i did.

and yea, i can see tversity, AND my own computer. it says something like tversity: jundell (jundell being my computer's name).

all my media is organized like how i organized it in tversity too. it just won't work.

you need a router for it to work. when you run tversity, turn on your media server sharing. then on your xbox 360 go to your videos, and it should pop up as "tversity: <your pc>"

This is an interesting thread. I will make sure to bookmark this in case I have a banned xbox 360 in the future.

Good luck with playing the video files. I don't have any information that can help, sorry.
